Ronny Kokert’s story reads like a Hollywood film script.
After suffering a bone marrow disease as a young boy it seemed as though he would never be able to take part in sports:
„One day I decided to become a warrior. I was 13 years old, I had recovered from a serious illness and – I was firmly convinced of this – I had great things ahead of me. My friends hung posters of pop-stars on their walls and were keen football fans – the figure resplendent above my bed was Gogen Yamaguchi, the legendary grand master of a famous karate school, and my bookshelf was bursting with biographical works about glorious samurai warriors.
Later I learned to hold my own in the system of top-class sports. I fought successfully in full-contact contests in Europe, Asia and the USA. But my dream of being a glittering warrior suffered a few hefty scratches when confronted by reality. Nonetheless, in a corner of my heart the vision survived of a martial art that can do more than win medals in tournaments or that is subject to a hierarchical and bureaucratic system of masters.
Shinergy developed because in the end I followed this vision. It is based on my own experiences with various martial arts, with the philosophies of Zen Buddhism and my knowledge of western sports science.”
